Extremely Dangerous: US Police Investigate Mysterious Group Emerging from Manholes at Night
New York authorities issued warnings on June 2 about an "extremely dangerous" situation after multiple incidents of strangers infiltrating and emerging from manholes in America's most populous city.
New York City officials are raising alarms about serious dangers posed by the sewer system following several recent incidents in which mysterious men were spotted entering and exiting manholes in Brooklyn and Queens.

According to the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, at least three illegal entries into the sewer system have been recorded since May 5. Although no casualties have been reported, authorities believe these activities pose particularly high risks and could lead to fatal consequences.
A spokesperson for the agency said in a statement on June 2: "Entering the sewer system is illegal and extremely dangerous. Inside the system, there can be toxic gases, unstable surfaces, risks of sudden flooding, and confined spaces that threaten lives. Residents must absolutely not enter pipelines, manholes, sewer openings, or wastewater discharge gates."
One of the first recorded incidents occurred around 2 a.m. on May 5 in the Astoria area of Queens. While working at his auto repair shop, Aki Jakupovic suddenly discovered a group of people emerging from the sewer system near his store. Concerned about potential incidents, Jakupovic and his staff quickly called 911 and moved customers' vehicles from outside into the garage.
Following the Queens incident, at least two similar infiltrations were recorded in Brooklyn last week, raising concerns about the activities of strangers beneath the city's vast underground infrastructure.
Officials stated that breaking into the sewer system could constitute a criminal offense. However, to date, no arrests have been made, and there is no evidence that these incidents pose a direct threat to public health.
A senior law enforcement official revealed that the leading investigative theory is that this group is searching for valuable items that have been swept away or lost in the sewer system.
My Daughter’s Bruises Made Her Mother Turn Into a Monster They Never Saw Coming
CHAPTER 1 — THE BRUISES SHE WASN’T SUPPOSED TO SEE
The night Doña Elena discovered the bruises, she stopped being just a mother.
And became something far more dangerous.
She had only come to her daughter’s home with simple things—homemade chicken soup, warm sweet bread, and prenatal vitamins Valeria always forgot to take.
The gated community in Metepec looked perfect from the outside.
Perfect lawns.
Perfect security.
Perfect silence.
The kind of place where nothing bad was supposed to happen.
Valeria, twenty-eight and seven months pregnant, lay curled on her side when she opened the door.
Her face was pale.
Too pale.
“Mom… you shouldn’t have come this late.”
“I’m your mother,” Elena said softly. “If your back hurts, I’d come even in a hailstorm.”
But the moment she stepped inside, something felt wrong.
No music.
No warmth.
No dinner smell.
Just silence.
Heavy. Artificial. Controlled.
When Elena adjusted the blanket over Valeria’s legs, her fingers stopped mid-air.
Dark purple bruises covered her daughter’s thighs.
Deep.
Irregular.
Not accidental.
Violent.
“Who did this to you?”
Valeria froze.
“No, Mom… please don’t ask.”
Elena’s breath caught.
“Did Adrián do this?”
Silence answered louder than words.
Valeria broke.
“He said no one would believe me… that he knows judges, police, prosecutors… he said if I speak, he’ll take my baby.”
That night, something inside Elena didn’t break.
It hardened.
Before leaving, she kissed her daughter’s forehead.
And whispered:
“I’ll come back.”
